MX Practice at local and private tracks

This year the boys have decided to race more regionally, so we have been practicing and racing at different tracks in preparation for the Amateur Nationals. The boys were invited to practice at the private track that Supercross Lites rider, Cody Gilmore practices at. This track is designed by Dirt Works and is limited to the number of people who can ride on it. It has a long MX style track that is not designed with the little bikes in mind. Cole has a tough time because the jumps are huge and go from 40' - 100'+. Broc has mastered the track and is the only 85cc to make the three tabletop section that goes from a 40' then 65' and finally a 120' jump.

Bad Boys of Racing Arenacross, Sioux Falls, SD 2009

We went to Sioux Falls, South Dakota last January for the Bad Boys of Racing Arenacross. This was an event that combined Monster Trucks, Arenacross, Tough Truck and side by side atv racing. With an abbreviated arenacross track that combined all 5 racing disciplines. The non-stop action packed night of racing had the boys practice, qualify and race all while the monster trucks and atvs were doing the same. What an event!

Broc took 2nd place in the 85cc class behind our friend, Logan Kentner on his 4 stroke 150. Cole won easily in the 65cc class and if you look close at the action shot of the monster truck, you can see Cole and a friend on the railing just above the trucks. This was the area where all of the racers were seated and we were not surprised that Cole never sat down all night.

During the intermission, they brought out gas powered RC trucks who entertained the crowd for half an hour. The crowd was able to come down on the track and meet the riders and drivers. Cole was asked for his autograph by some of the smaller kids who thought he was cool by winning his first moto of the night.

We had a good time at this event and will look for it again next year! If you hear of this event in your area, make sure you check it out!

Peterson Racing’s SX in Brookings, SD

Friday night's races went well for the boys!  Cole had a good start in the main and was fighting for 2nd when he tried an inside pass and spun out in a rut that had dug down to the concrete floor.  He remounted in 7th and finished 5th for the night.
Saturday’s races were very good for Cole because he was determined to finish better than the night before.  With more racers showing up, Cole raced hard and finished 3rd on the night.

Broc had a good Friday finishing second, checking out from the rest of the class.  Saturday we decided to have him not only race his 85cc 9-11 class, but put him in the older, faster 85cc Super Mini class.  He finished 2nd again in the 85cc 9-11 class and rode hard to an 8th place in Super Mini.  Both classes had full gates with 15 riders each and Broc took the hole in shot both 9-11 races and even one of the Super Mini races, which is amazing since he was the only stock 85 on the gate.

Trevor joined us on Saturday for the 85cc 9-11 class.  He rode faster than the first time in Brookings and liked this track better than the one back in November.  Going down in the first race, and fighting for position in the second, Trevor did better this time.  He is ready for the outdoor season to start where he feels more confident and comfortable.

2008 Wrap Up

Broc takes 1st in the 85 jr class and 2nd in the 85 open class for 2008. At the begining of the year we decided to put Broc in the open class to give him some experience racing with the older/faster boys. By the end of the season he was winning and eventually ended the year in 2nd place. So much for trying to humble him!

Cole the Funky Chicken Mason, took 2nd overall in the 2008 65 jr class! Way to go Cole!

Trevor ended his first racing season with a third in 65sr and 8th in the 85 jr class.

We want to thank our sponsors and track owners for helping us do what we love!

3 Oaks (Persia), Round 7 of 11

Uncle S. was in town to see the boys race, so the pressure was on. The boys raced well in the humid heat.

Broc's 85 Open class was a fast group as usual. Racing against the older faster kids will prove to be a good learning experience as Broc moves up through the groups in the future.

Cole scored 2-2 in his 65 Junior class to take second overall. He showed an incredible determination in repeatedly catching and trying to pass Zane, who raced well as always - nice job, Zane.

Broc's 85 Junior class was a nailbiting race and came down to the wire. In the first heat, Broc didn't get the best gate choice and ended up with a slower start. He took third in the heat. In the second, he benefitted from a fall and quickly jumped from third to first, a lead he held and grew all the way to the finish. With the second heat counting for more than the first, Broc's 3-1 was good enough for the overall win.

Trevor continues to show improvement, getting better starts and restarting like a rocket after a fall in the 65 Senior class race.

It was also good to see Luke V. who came to the races with his leg in a cast. Luke had a terrible accident recently and is on the road to recovery... get well soon Luke!

Persia July, 20th

July 20th at Persia wa a good weekend for MBR. Trevor finished the 85jr class a passed several riders in the 65sr class. He continues to improve but we may limit the day before practicing sessions to 2 hours maximum so they aren’t worn out for Sundays racing.
Cole was as proud of himself as we were for him. He finally beat his rival and friend Zane. He wanted to tease Zane after the race but realized it wasn’t appropriate at the time. He continues to be the points leader.

Broc took second in the 85jr class to a District 22 racer, Chase Evans and fourth in the open class. Luke V continues to gain speed as he holeshot moto 2 of the jr class and holding Broc off for the first lap. Broc continues to lead the 85jr and is 3rd in the open.
